Uganda is one of the most stable countries in Africa. The annual increase in gross national product has been around 7% for many years. Makerere University in Kampala was ranked the third best university in Africa in 2017. Uganda is at the forefront in many areas and driving the development of the East African Community EAC. Uganda has taken in around 1.5 million refugees from surrounding countries in the past two years, proof of the popularity of this beautiful and well-governed country.
Uganda is a democracy with a multi-party system, independent judiciary, freedom of expression, independent media. Despite many economic problems from earlier times, the poverty rate during the reign of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni declined from over 60% to below 20% on an international scale. Numerous projects to improve the infrastructure are underway or in preparation: new railway construction, energy supply, road construction etc. President Museveni is strengthening sustainable measures and improving environmental protection. In Uganda there are most ethnic groups in a state that, like the many religious communities, also live peacefully with one another.
